The needs of carers are often overlooked especially when the needs of those they are caring for are more obvious or immediate.

Being a carer for someone can be isolating and demanding and can have a profound effect on your mental, physical and emotional well-being. This can put extra pressure and strain on you, especially as you have to carry on with your own life as well. Being responsible for someone else in addition to managing your own life can be tremendously stressful. The needs of carers are often overlooked especially when the needs of those they are caring for are more obvious or immediate.

Taking care of ourselves is so important yet we can sometimes forget that being able to take part in the various self care wellness offerings can be a privilege. I have found such solace in the simplicity of connecting back with the breath - All you need is your own body, so it really is accessible to everyone.

Working with Mind.

Mind in Bexley carers service provides practical & emotional support, information and advice to relatives and friends caring for someone over the age of eighteen and experiencing mental health problems and / or drug and alcohol use in Bexley.

I approached  Mind in Bexley during the Pandemic and offered to volunteer my services for free to people experiencing mental health issues and their carers.

Kind Words…

I learned something special today, that breathing can indeed bring me home to myself and the safety of my body, and that this is when I am better for both myself and the rest of my world.  I will endeavour to build this into a daily practice.

— Hanna, Carer

Octavia approached Mind in Bexley during the Pandemic and offered to volunteer her services for free to people experiencing mental health issues and their carers. Mind were touched by her compassion and very grateful for her kind gesture to help us and our members during such difficult times. These sessions have been a lifeline for some of our members and have made a great difference in their lives. Learning simple breathwork techniques to cope with difficulties and focus on self-care has had a significant impact on well-being.

— Imogen | Carer, Mind

Thank you, Octavia, for grounding me into the safety of my own body and mind these past months. It has been so very special to come home to myself in such a way as with The Breath. It has been very empowering. Your guiding voice is so unobtrusive and provides a gentle melody to accompany the journey of the systematic down regulation of my nervous system, whilst teaching me so much at the same time. I love how every session is a learning journey and that your guiding of the breath is symbiotic to the ingrained teachings you seem to incorporate so effortlessly.

— Alex, Carer
